Our Process

Stonehaven Sea Salt Co.

Local Artisan Sea Salt

We're a start-up venture based in Stonehaven making Sea Salt in small batches from the local North Sea water.

Our Sea Salt compliments the fantastic range of local produce already available the the North East of Scotland.

Our Manufacturing Process

Working in partnership with a local fishing vessel, we harvest our seawater in small batches from the North Sea. Going a few miles off Stonehaven ensures the purest seawater is collected.

The seawater is filtered and UV treated before being evaporated slowly to form salt crystals. A recent upgrade now includes an Air Source Heat Pump to provide hot water for our process and reduce our energy consumption. We don't artificially oven-dry the salt and it is therefore a 'wet' salt which gives a different, softer texture - ideal as a finishing salt, but it means it may not work very well in a salt grinder!

Nothing is added and the unrefined Sea Salt crystals are finally graded and packaged ready for you to enjoy.

Traceability

Because we feel it's important to know exactly where your food comes from, we note the GPS location that every batch of seawater is harvested.
Working with the regulatory government bodies and commercial labs across the UK, we've performed an extensive suite of tests to confirm that our product is of the highest quality.
